Sikhism is a monotheistic faith founded more than 500 years ago in South Asia. It has roughly 27 million followers worldwide, making it the fifth-largest religion. Observant Sikhs do not cut their hair; male followers often cover their heads with turbans - which are considered sacred - and refrain from shaving their beards. There are roughly 500,000 Sikhs in the U.S., according to estimates. The majority worldwide live in Punjab a northwestern state of India.

The Sikh community in Northwest Arkansas dates back from the 1990s. The community was formed by a few families which originally met every Sunday in the homes of its members for Paath. As the community continued to grow, the founding members decided it was time to build a permanent place of worship for their small community. Finally, in 2012, with the support of the community a building was purchased for the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple of Northwest Arkansas in Rogers. Gurdwara in Rogers will serve the needs of Sikhs living in Northwest Arkansas cities of Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville and surrounding areas.
